1.5" Scale 4-8-4 Old Northern

The Little Engines Old Northern 4-8-4 is the largest 1.5 inch scale steam locomotive available commercially with some finished engines weighing in at as much as 2,500 pounds.  This engine is beautifully detailed and we recommend this set of castings for the person who wants something different and challenging to build.  SINCE THIS IS A COMPLEX ENGINE, WE STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT ONLY A BUILDER SURE OF THEIR ABILITY ATTEMPT IT AS A FIRST-TIME PROJECT.  We suggest that anyone considering one of these beauties try to see one at a local steam club track as there are a great many of these Northerns running at clubs around the country.

Our 4-8-4 was patterned after the Union Pacific 800 class Northerns and can be used as the basis for any of the larger Northerns used by roads around the country.  Castings for this engine include a water-jet-cut frame, 80 inch Baldwin box-poc drivers, one piece driving boxes with Timken Bearings, lateral motion adjustment, three-axle buckeye tender trucks and much more.

Because the Old Northern is truly a unique scale steam locomotive, the castings are available only as a special order requiring payment in advance and 60 to 120 days lead time, depending on our foundry schedule.  Prices for special order castings not in stock are available upon request and will be based on individual quotation by the foundry.
